We’re pleased to welcome a new amendment to the Planning and Infrastructure Bill, passed in the House of Commons on 13 November. This change will help to ensure that disabled people are not left behind in the transition to electric vehicles (EVs).
The amendment gives the Government the power to make the BSI PAS 1899 accessible charging standard a legal requirement if public EV chargers do not become more accessible.

“By embedding accessibility into EV charging design from the outset, we can create solutions that work for everyone, led by those who face the greatest barriers.”
Designability took part in the original steering group for PAS 1899:2022 and created simple design guidance, kindly funded by Motability Foundation, to help manufacturers and providers understand and apply the standard.
