Designability and Motability, the charity, have been attending and speaking at many EV and transport related events across the UK in recent weeks. At the events we presented our research findings as a result of engaging with disabled people, and shared the freely available Design Guidance for industry to ensure public EV charging is accessible for all.
Houses of Parliament
The Designability team were privileged to be invited by Motability, the charity, to join a panel of speakers on Monday, 21 November, at the Houses of Parliament in London. Here we shared with MPs, policy makers and electric vehicle (EV) industry experts, the voices of disabled drivers of EVs, which we gathered from our findings through extensive research and testing, when developing design guidance on what accessible public EV charging looks like.
Those at the event got a chance to use our design prototypes to see, feel and hear first-hand what the challenges are that disabled people face when charging EVs in public, and the changes that can be implemented to align with the new BSI standard. Combined, this will ensure the roll out of the charging infrastructure, which is happening at pace, is accessible to all – now and into the future.
London EV Show 29 Nov – 1 Dec
Our next big event is the London EV Show from 29 November to 1 December. This is the biggest EV industry event in the UK for leading industry professionals and EV enthusiasts from across the globe. There will be over 5,000 people attending over the three days, with over 1,000 companies connected to the industry. There will be around 20 ministry and government bodies and over 120 speakers.
Catharine Brown, CEO at Designability, will be taking part in a panel discussion with Motability on Thursday 1 December, on the topic of ‘Electric Vehicles & Disabled People’, hosted by motoring journalist Ginny Buckley.
The design and engineering team will also be hosting an exhibition stand for the three days, showcasing the key features of the design prototypes. The team will be on hand to answer any queries about implementing the design guidance. We will be on stand E33.
