We have just launched a fundraising appeal to support more disabled children to get involved play this summer. Every donation helps our work of creating products and services that help disabled people to live with greater independence, just like our Wizzybug powered wheelchairs for very young children.
For children like Delilah, a Wizzybug has made a world of difference to her and her family, however not all disabled children have same opportunities.
Research shows that 92% of parents say their disabled children do not have the same opportunities to be included as their non-disabled peers, even though the UN recognises play as a fundamental right for children.
Delilah’s Story
Four-year-old Delilah has cerebral palsy and is unable to move independently, so playing used to mean watching as her brothers and sisters ran around her.
But earlier this year, Delilah received a Wizzybug powered wheelchair from Designability. They are loaned, free of charge, to any young disabled child who needs one, giving them the chance to play more easily and the independence to explore their world.
Delilah’s mum, Vikki, remembers the first time Delilah tried her Wizzybug, saying “the look on her face was just priceless… It was a very special moment.”
“She’s extra smiley now,” Vikki said. “She can do things for herself and it’s given her confidence. She loves to chase after her siblings and get involved in play. It’s unreal.”
With the support of people like you, over 1,500 children like Delilah have benefitted from Wizzybugs. But there are still children waiting for one of their own.
“Wizzybug makes life easier among all the struggles.” Vikki said. But there are still children like Delilah waiting for a Wizzybug of their own. “Donating to Designability is something you can do to make a massive difference,” Vikki said. “People like you can make a child happy.”
