Making Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging More Accessible for Disabled People

Jump to article

Designability and Motability, the Charity are working on a project to understand how Electric Vehicle (EV) chargers should be designed to make them more accessible for disabled people throughout the UK.

We have been working directly with disabled drivers and passengers to understand the barriers they face.

Find out more by watching our video from one of our research days conducted at Gridserve.

Our initial research and user engagement activities highlighted a range of specific design challenges around existing EV charging. From parking and space in the built environment, setting up and using chargers, and finding out about suitable charging points. There is significant scope for improvement.

The outcomes of this project will provide guidance to ensure that the public EV charging infrastructure is accessible to all.

Our work on making EV charging accessible was the subject of a recent episode of Robert Llewelyn’s Fully Charged Plus on YouTube.
