Head of Fundraising and Communications (maternity cover)

We are seeking a Head of Fundraising and Communications (maternity cover) to lead and inspire our small fundraising and communications team to meet the goals set out in our business plans and achieve our income targets.

Salary: £35,000 – 40,000 FTE

Contract: 30 – 37.5hrs/week (open to flexible working), 15 months fixed-term maternity cover

Location: Office based in Bath, but home working during Covid-19 restrictions

About the role

You will be joining the charity at an exciting time as we celebrate the 10 year anniversary of our flagship product and service, the Wizzybug Loan Scheme.

You will have:

  • Experience leading and managing a team to achieve their goals.
  • A successful track record in more than one field of fundraising.
  • Experience and knowledge of marketing and/or communications.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to manage novel or conflicting demands.

Designability is funded via a combination of grants, product royalties, sales revenue, consultancy and voluntary fundraised donations. The majority of our income coming from voluntary donations and in particular from Trusts and Foundations. The post holder will lead and inspire our existing fundraising and communications team. Meeting the goals set in the Designability business plan as well as the fundraising and communications business plan, ensuring that we can enable more disabled people to live independently.

About us

Designability is an independent charity that enables disabled people to live with greater independence. Our expertise is in user-centred design, creating products with and for disabled people to improve and enrich their lives. All of our work is funded by voluntary donations.

We deliver choice by involving disabled people across our organisation and throughout the design process to create innovative product solutions not available elsewhere.

You will be joining a small team which includes mechanical and electronics engineers, workshop technicians, product designers, occupational therapists, fundraisers, researchers and administrators.

Designability was recently awarded second place in the ‘Best Charities to Work For 2020’ list by Third Sector which is a reflection of our team highly rating the fact that we encourage activities that create strong teams and foster good personal relationships. Our staff also stated their confidence in Designability’s leadership and strategic planning.
