What the service offered to carers
The Memory Technology Gallery was a service provided to carers of people with dementia in Bath & North East Somerset, in a demonstration room within the Therapies Centre of the Royal United Hospital.
The service explained the products available on the market to carers to help them manage the effects of their loved one living with dementia.
This gallery relied on face to face working, both for the product demonstrations themselves and promoting the service by visiting hospitals wards and meeting community groups.
The impact of Covid-19 on the service
Following the Covid-19 outbreak, our ability to deliver this service has been very limited. Face to face contacts have been suspended to follow Government guidelines, and we have now sadly made the difficult decision to permanently close the Memory Technology Gallery service from November 2020.
Designability agreed a new strategy in 2019 which focuses our work going forward on supporting people who are primarily physically disabled, and their mobility challenges, so we will concentrate our time and resources on this beneficiary group in the future.
Where to find alternative support
We recommend that carers of people with dementia contact the Alzheimer’s Society. Their website has a wide range of products and advice about caring for someone with dementia.
