What's the problem?
A powered wheelchair user drew attention to problems faced when toileting away from home. Support from friends, family and carers is required to help with cleaning after toileting.
What if a product existed that could be used independently by people with a range of different mobility and dexterity?
Process
Designability created concepts for a portable bidet that enables people with reduced dexterity and fine motor control to be able to secure and operate the device with ease.
We worked with a group of disabled people with reduced mobility and dexterity to help us develop and test the product concept. We created functional (works like) and visual (looks like) prototypes.
Functional prototype
Integrating key components: water reservoir, pump, moving nozzle and rechargeable battery. The nozzle design and water jet force were tested and modified to achieve most efficient cleaning cycle.
Visual prototype
To demonstrate product appearance and key user touchpoints, including fold out arms to secure pura to the toilet, large buttons to activate cleaning - all packaged in a portable wipe clean design.
