A 10k with a difference
George decided he wanted to take part in the Simplyhealth Great Bristol 10k to show his support for Designability’s Wizzybug Loan Scheme. However, being an experienced runner already, he wanted to make it a bit harder in order to drum up some donations.
Enter… Wizzybug! He got in touch with our workshop team and they agreed to create a modified Wizzybug shell for him to wear on his shoulders for the duration of the run.
"A colleague joked that I should run holding a Wizzybug to raise lots of money. This joke quickly spiralled out of control and I found myself at the start line with a Wizzybug shell strapped to me."
Running with Wizzy
George made the decision not to train with the Wizzybug and, instead, just turned up on the day and hoped that he could complete a steady 10 kilometres. Which he did!
"I wasn’t planning on breaking any records, just getting around the route in one piece.
"It was a very hot day and the straps were rubbing into my shoulders, which was quite uncomfortable. Although within a couple of kilometres I had a good rhythm going.
"Without sounding too cheesy, the generosity of the people that sponsored me kept me going."
CJ Hole Charity of the Year
George works for CJ Hole who have kindly selected Designability as their Charity of the Year. They chose to support us because they were very impressed with the work they do, particularly the Wizzybug Loan Scheme.
Their staff will be taking on a number of challenges and co-ordinating other activities to meet their fundraising target throughout the course of the year.
